Title Note

2 LPs on 1 CD. The CD version substitutes shorter 7" versions for the longer LP versions so that all songs can fit onto 1 disc.

Engineers: Juergen Koppers, Harold Faltermeyer, John Arrias.

The peak of Donna Summer's original run of chart hits, ON THE RADIO is an excellent best-of covering her four years as the queen of disco. After this, she switched labels from Casablanca--then on its last legs--to Geffen, had one more hit with the synth-poppy "The Wanderer," and settled into a phase of her career where every new release was treated as a comeback attempt.

The title comes from Summer's then-current single, here in two versions, but it has a double meaning; these are the radio-friendly seven-inch mixes of Summer's singles. Summer, aided by her songwriter/producers Giorgio Moroder and Pete Belotte, was the only disco artist who consistently made records that sounded as good on the radio as they did on the dance floor. Moroder's quirky, synth-heavy arrangements sounded fresh and exciting, and the tight editing and pop-oriented restructuring of the arrangements turned songs like "Hot Stuff" and "I Remember Yesterday" into minor pop masterpieces. Summer's amazing voice, an underrated instrument, makes them unforgettable. ON THE RADIO is as good as disco ever got.
