Mark Lowry's ON BROADWAY album is a case study in niche marketing. He came to national attention as a "PG-rated" Christian comic, performing alongside gospel superstars like Bill & Gloria Gaither. In addition to his comedic skills, however, Lowry is also skilled in the theatrical arts. As this disc shows, he's also got a flair for Broadway-style singing. ON BROADWAY finds Lowry tackling classic showtunes like "Don't Rain on my Parade," but he intersperses plenty of humorous patter between songs and injects plenty of satirical humor into most of the Broadway fare he takes on here. In addition to the appeal he's already garnered through his association with Gaither and his strict adherence to "clean" comedy, Lowry's album also gained sales momentum from the presence of gospel stars like Sandi Patti and of course, the Gaither Vocal Band.
