Chicago cornetist Josh Berman has been a member of Rob Mazurek's Exploding Star Orchestra and other avant jazz ensembles. OLD IDEA, Berman's debut as a leader, employs a highly progressive aesthetic, blending post bop, avant garde, and chamber music tendencies in surprising and vigorous improv-based compositions. Reedist Keefe Jackson and vibraphonist Jason Adasiewicz are two key players in Berman's band, and lend color and dimension to these inside/outside tunes, while the rhythm section twists and shifts beneath them.
