Title Note

The wonderfully upbeat OJALA QUE LLUEVA CAFE stands as Guerra's first major hit, as well as the last album to feature Maridalia Hernandez sharing vocal chores. Particularly at the time of its release, OJALA breathed much-needed new life into tropical Latin music with its exquisite poetry, subtle production, and worldly sense of taste and wit. Besides the fact that he has a voice of honey, Guerra also possesses a unique brand of meren-pop songwriting that is as catchy as it is elegant.

Bubbly, melodic horn interplay graces the uplifting "Visa Para un Sueno" as Guerra sings about seeking a path to one's dreams. The tempo then eases up to make room for the charming poetry of the album's hit title track. Guerra's bucolic imagery takes on a climactic glow at the song's end as he is joined by the delightful sound of a children's chorus. The brisk "La Gallera" gets down and soulful with the "whoa-oh's" of a gospel-tinged chorus, while the horn section spins out lightning-fast lines. "Woman Del Callao" is a droll Caribbean pop treat with funky electric guitar that bounces on and off of the song's mid-tempo merengue thump.
