This compilation from Metropolis Records will give listeners a glimpse into the history and development of Ben Watkins's music. Watkins has broadened his scope since 2002 to incorporate a myriad of styles into his work. However, this 10-year retrospective focuses on Watkins's seminal recordings, many of which fall neatly into a techno vein.

All 11 selections on ODYSSEY 1992-2002 could be best described as hard-hitting dance tracks. The throbbing, synthetic rhythms of "High Energy Protons" and "Laughing Gas" best epitomize Watkins's earliest recordings. On these tracks, quarter notes pound in the foreground, while spacey keyboard effects swirl and pulsate in the distance. The rock influenced "Masters of the Universe" and the spooky choral arrangement "Hotaka" illustrate Watkins's later recordings, which are more diverse. In general, there is an indefinable mystique to each of these dance tracks. In addition to the use of atmospheric keyboard effects, Watkins employs a rich tapestry of rhythmical colors throughout. On this collection, listeners will not hear "songs" per se, but rather, a series of compelling, often sultry, post-modern grooves.
