Though it was recorded before the catastrophic 2005 hurricane that devastated Belong's New Orleans home town, in its thick, rolling soundscapes the electronica duo's October LANGUAGE conjures indelible, iconic images of grey, fetid floodwaters submerging whole neighborhoods. Electronic drones echo through cavernous aural chambers, while static and distortion randomly alter the pieces' seemingly placid surfaces. In its mesmerizing enormity, the brooding "I Never Lose. Never Really" literally sets the tone for the rest of the album, while the title track has a uniquely strange, desolate beauty.
