The four principal members of the Sound of Animals Fighting go by monikers the Lynx, the Nightingale, the Skunk, and the Walrus, and wear animal masks to complete the picture. It seems right for a band that has appropriated the mystery and pomp of prog rock, and would be a little off-putting if they weren't so good at what they do. THE OCEAN AND THE SUN is a tightly wrapped ball of musical enigma, employing classically spiraling guitar figures, polyrhythmic drumming, and subtle electronic beats and textures to evoke the natural world. It swirls and surrounds without ever touching ground.
