Review

Spin (p.104) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "With Bright Eyes' Mike Mogis producing, they hold forth on scenester politics and young love in ten glee-folk jams that never stop shaking or shimmying."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.109) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "'O' resounds with the lustily imparted vocals of Kianna Alarid and Neely Jenkins....The aptly titled 'Cacophonous' sounds like a hyperventilating CSS tearing upThe Mamas And The Papas..."
Paste (magazine) (p.66) - "[F]avoring rousing sing-along choruses, richly layered pianos and trumpets, and even standard drum kits....The band plays with a manic energy that dovetail perfectly with Neely Jenkins and Kianna Alarid's starry-eyed vocals..."
Pitchfork (Website) - "O expands upon Jamie Pressnall's arsenal of tap-shoe percussion, embracing group stomping, cymbals, and live drums to fill out the rhythm section while exploring new ways to manipulate and record their tried-and-true tap sound."
Clash (magazine) (p.123) - "There's a sly experimental edge to many of the songs here....This is an album of glorious sunshine pop to cheer all but the most determinedly cynical."

Title Note

The playfully idiosyncratic Tilly and the Wall stretch themselves musically on the wide-ranging O. Along with typically sweet natured and winsome acoustic tunes like "Cacophony" and "Tall Tall Grass," both of which feature the band's secret weapon, tap dancer Jamie Pressnall, the band's third album includes several songs with more conventional percussion, like the noisy rocker "Pot Kettle Black." Other songs, such as "I Found You" and "Dust Me Off," reach a happy medium between the two approaches, blending this more aggressive sonic attack with the twee indie charm of earlier albums WILD LIKE CHILDREN and BOTTOMS OF BARRELS. The mixture makes O Tilly and the Wall's most accessible and enjoyable album so far. O is available not only as a CD, but also as a vinyl LP.
