The Veils Artist Snapshot:

Fronted by guitarist and vocalist Finn Andrews, the Veils formed in London in 2001. The Veils' sound can be classified as indie rock, but it draws inspiration primarily from the wistful folk music Andrews immersed himself in as a teenager in New Zealand. THE RUNAWAY FOUND, the group's debut, appeared in 2004 on Rough Trade records. Line-up changes followed, and Andrews recruited a new band (including old friends from New Zealand) to record NUX VOMICA, which arrived in `06 (with an '07 stateside release). SUN GANGS, released in '09, gave evidence of Andrews's evolving singer-songwriter craft, and proved to one of the band's most accomplished recordings.

For the Veils' second studio outing, NUX VOMICA, fiery frontman Finn Andrews, the son of Barry Andrews (XTC, Shriekback) assembled an entirely new backing band. The resulting album is far more accomplished then its predecessor, THE RUNAWAY FOUND, and features stark, urgent, and intense songs that justifiably warrant comparisons to Nick Cave and Jeff Buckley, as evinced on the wound-up "Not Yet" and the howling "Jesus for the Jugular."
