NURSERY DAYS may be of more interest to parents than some children--Woody Guthrie's distinctive voice has never been for all tastes--but it's a fine collection of classic children's songs. Divided between silly singalong tunes like "Jiggy Jiggy Bum" and "My Yellow Crayon" and more instructive songs like "Clean-O" and the subtly moralized "Don't You Push Me Down," NURSERY DAYS is a delightful and engaging record. Guthrie wrote most of these songs for his own children, and the overriding sense one gets from listening to these 16 tracks is one not of a singer addressing his audience, but a father playing with his kids. Whether the sweetly goofy "Bubble Gum" or the spirited "Race You Down the Mountain," Guthrie's songs amuse and entertain kids and adults alike.
