Originally pegged as a late-for-the-boat Madchester act, Birmingham's Ocean Colour Scene reinvented itself as a more traditional rock band just in time for the Britpop boom of the mid-1990s. Championed by "Modfather" Paul Weller and Oasis mastermind Noel Gallagher, OCS reemerged in '96 with its warmly embraced sophomore album, MOSELEY SHOALS, and reinforced its celebrated status with the subsequent MARCHIN' ALREADY, which topped the U.K. charts. Although the `60s-influenced ensemble never gained a substantial U.S. audience, it continued to have a following in England, with band members often backing up Weller on his solo outings.
