The Black Dahlia Murder Artist Snapshot:

Detroit's Black Dahlia Murder share more than long snowy winters with Scandinavian bands. The melodic death metal coming out of Sweden and Norway has heavily influenced this American band. Together since the start of the decade and named after the infamous 1940s L.A. murder, their complex dynamics are relentlessly intense, but also feature a dark sense of humor. Albums like 2005's MIASMA and 2007's NOCTURNAL have helped define American metalcore and thrash for the new millennium. Blast beats, guttural vocals paired with screams, and blindingly fast guitar chops all figure into the mix, but the whole represents something new.

Review

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.47) - "[E]ach track is merciless, enhanced by Trevor Strnad's ability to sound like two totally different yet equally skilled vocalists in a single breath."

Title Note

The Black Dahlia Murder: Trevor Strnad (vocals); Brian Eschbach (guitar, background vocals); John Kempainen (guitar); Ryan "Bart" Williams (bass guitar); Shannon Lucas (drums).

The Black Dahlia Murder play a no-bull, classicist style of thrash that gooses the old-school guitar gymnastics of Anthrax with the sizzling modern speed and charred-throat vocals of death metal. NOCTURNAL's 10 tracks whiz by in a powerful display of fleet-fingered axe-wielding from Brian Eschbach and John Kempainen, with the new rhythm section of Bart Williams and Shannon Lucas more than holding up their end of the bargain. Despite the dark imagery, shrieked and growled vocals, and unrelenting warp speed crunch, these guys sound like they're having a ton of fun doing this, and it comes through in the music.
