Canadian singer/harpist Lorenna McKennitt has been typecast as a performer of soothing music, but she is really much more. True, much of her music is ethereal and relaxing, but McKennitt is a true creative spirit, drawing inspiration from the poetry of Yeats, Blake, and Tennyson. NIGHTS AT THE ALHAMBRA was recorded live at the Alhambra, a fortress on the eastern border of the city of Granada in the south of Spain. On this set, McKennitt delves into the overlapping aspects of the folk music of the British Isles, Spain, and North Africa, balancing yearning melodies with pulsating, swirling rhythms. The stunningly recorded NIGHTS features traditional material along with tunes from McKennitt's albums from 1985 on.
