George Friedman is not a psychic or a weatherman, but he does earn a living making predictions, as CEO of STRATFOR, a think tank and forecasting agency. In his vision of the coming century, he dismisses the common view that China and India will emerge as legitimate threats to the United States' global dominance. While those two superpowers will be occupied with infighting and internal strife, U.S. command of the four oceans and the (future) development of American space-based solar generators, which will replace oil as the most vital global fuel source, will ensure that the United States will reign supreme for the foreseeable future. Some of Friedman's more surprising predictions include the rise of Mexico as a world power, and a forthcoming war between the US and an alliance between Japan and Turkey, slated to begin on Thanksgiving Day, 2050. However, earth dwellers can be thankful that, due to advances in military technology, that war, like most in the coming century, will be fought in outer space.
