Global Rhythm (Publication) (p.49) - "NEW HEAVY thrashes through a knotty thicket of double-bass-tinged hard rock while somehow maintaining its dub roots..."
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Dub Trio: DP Holmes (guitar, keyboards); Joe Tomino (melodica, keyboards, drums, percussion); Stu Brooks (keyboards, bass guitar).
Additional personnel: Mike Patton (vocals).
As its name suggests, Dub Trio takes roots reggae as the starting point for its voyages into electronica, punk, and metal, expanding on territory first claimed by bands like the Clash and Bad Brains. Its second album is the mostly instrumental band's first to include vocals, courtesy of the former Faith No More singer Mike Patton, who tears his way into "Not Alone" surrounded by trip-hop textures that need only the slightest provocation to transform into heavy rock. "One Man Tag Crew" wears its dub rock heart on its sleeve, while "Angle of Acceptance" is the epitome of the group's artful genre combination.
