Title Note

Producers: Gary Numan, Bill Sharpe, Nick Smith, Colin Thurston, The Wave Team.

Includes liner notes by Steve Malins.

Like Hawkwind or Mike Oldfield--two artists with whom he otherwise has little in common--Gary Numan has a small and vociferous cult following but is otherwise ignored, if not actively derided, by the pop music scene at large. Forever best known in the UK for his futuristic postpunk band Tubeway Army, and in the US for his indestructible Top 20 hit "Cars," Numan has nonetheless had a long and prolific career away from the media spotlight, and his biggest fans feel that his best work has in fact been done during his periods of greatest obscurity.

After leaving Beggars Banquet Records in 1983, Numan set up his own Numa label, and, aside from one disastrous liaison with IRS Records, has stayed indie ever since. NEW DREAMS FOR OLD neatly summarizes a decade and a half of Numan records over the course of 19 tracks, many of them included in their often superior seven-inch mixes.
