Despite the artist credit to Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons, this budget compilation does not contain any tracks that were given that credit when first released. Rather, among its ten tracks are eight songs that were billed as Frankie Valli solo performances, and two that went out under the Four Seasons name. Annotator Rocky Petralia makes mention of such founding members of the group as Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito, but neither of them are present on any of these recordings. The Valli solo tracks include his 1966 single "The Proud One" (number 68 in the Billboard Hot 100), his 1967 singles "I Make a Fool of Myself" (number 18) and "To Give (The Reason I Live)" (number 29), his 1974 comeback single "My Eyes Adored You" (number one), his 1975 singles "Swearin' to God" (number six) and "Our Day Will Come" (number 11), and his 1976 singles "Fallen Angel" (number 36) and "We're All Alone" (number 78). But the Valli hits "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" (number two) and "Grease" (number one) are missing. Instead, the Four Seasons' two big comeback singles of 1975, "Who Loves You" (number three) and "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" (number one), both of which reduce Valli's participation in favor of prominent vocals by group members Gerry Polci and Don Ciccone, round out the short disc. As a result, this is one of those collections that is neither here nor there. Compilation producer Mark Pinkus might have been better advised to go with Valli solo recordings entirely and make the album a more comprehensive one of his hits apart from the group. ~ William Ruhlmann
