If yes, listen to Music Tapes, a band led by visionary oddball Julian Koster, who includes the singing saw along with unusual instrumentation, antique recording equipment, and a sometimes outsider approach to songwriting and singing on most tracks of MUSIC TAPES FOR CLOUDS AND TORNADOES. Associated with the Elephant 6 collective, Music Tapes shares the quirky charm of collective-mates Neutral Milk Hotel and Of Montreal, but is decidedly more lo-fi and experimental. Beneath the cascade of psychedelic curveballs, Koster's pure songcraft and sonic inventive will win listeners over.
