The market usually experiences a glut of romantically oriented compilations each year around Valentine's Day, and the EMI/Blue Note series MUSIC FOR LOVERS falls right in line with that trend. The 2007 Dinah Washington installment has the vocalist taking on such chestnuts as "Lover Man," "That Old Feeling," and "I'll Never Stop Loving You." For the most part, the recordings date from the early '60s, on the later side of Washington's career, but the brilliance of her phrasing and timbre is undiminished. As the title implies, the music is quite lyrical and romantic, making this set a perfect soundtrack for a candlelit dinner.
