Even the most cursory glance at the six pictures of the lollipop-wielding woman adorning the CD booklet of MTV's PARTY TO GO: 2000 speaks volumes about the Weltanschauung of the series and the television phenomenon that inspired it. In 1991, following the enormous, body-grinding success of its Club MTV program (which later came to be known as The Grind), MTV began to issue collections of dance music to more thoroughly deliver the living-room-bound an ersatz club experience.

With this collection, PARTY TO GO moves away from the more beat-driven tracks of earlier collections to selections that are reflective of the kind teen-audience music that dominated pop charts at the close of the '90s. Included here are tracks from the likes of Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync, and Britney Spears, as well as 702 and Aaliyah. Spears' "Thinkin' About You" is a jumpy, bouncy dance track marked by the singer's occasional gospel-influenced vocal lines. The chorus-drenched "How Do I Deal" showcases the talents of actress-turned-singer Jennifer Love Hewitt. A dance version of Leann Rimes' chart-topper "How Do I Live" rounds out the collection.
