Playing Florence Ballard to Beyonce's Diana Ross (sans Ballard's tragic demise), former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland has managed to stake out a successful solo career in her own right since that group's conclusion. Working in a contemporary, hip-hop-tinged R&B mode, Rowland has scored several hits via duets with hip-hop stars including Nelly, Eve, and Joe Budden. Rowland has made several appearances in films and on television, and she released her sophomore album, MS. KELLY, in 2007.

After the breakup of the phenomenally successful Destiny's Child, Kelly Rowland kept a relatively low profile, at least compared to group-mate Beyonce, whose celebrity status as a solo artist cast a big shadow. Rowland cast some shadows of her own, however, with 2007's MS. KELLY, a wholly satisfying showcase for the singer's particular take on contemporary R&B.

Cameos from Eve, Snoop Dogg, and Tank keep the energy high, but MS. KELLY is Rowland's show through and through. With equal attention to both thumping club tracks (the album's lead-off single "Like This") and smooth, downtempo balladry ("The Show"), this solo effort pushes Rowland into some well-deserved limelight.

Thsi album was definitely worth the postponements and multiple delays. Not only did Kelly succeed in setting herserf apart from the music of Destinys Child, she succeeded in creating a rather diverse album with some pivots and mixes. My only disappointment with this album was "Ghetto." It just doesnt do it for me. On the other hand, "Work" and "The Show" featuring Tank, were pleasant surprises and great listens.
