Review

New York Times, 09/12/2008, "Partly a family memoir, partly a historical essay and partly the record of an improbable feat of engineering....[MOVING MIDWAY] tells a fascinating and complicated story of regional identity

Film Comment, 09/01/2008, p.72, "MOVING MIDWAY ultimately takes on an optimistic momentum....Cheshire demonstrates how much about race and the South remains sadly foreign to the big screen."

Los Angeles Times, 10/17/2008, "MOVING MIDWAY and its house-relocating metaphor plays its own quirky yet thoughtful part in the question of how much the South has truly moved."

Entertainment Weekly, 09/19/2008, p.54, "With his deep cinematic knowledge and vivid visual references, Cheshire analyzes the romantic notion of 'the plantation' and offers a compassionate meditation on Southern race relations."

Product Notes

When Godfrey Cheshire's cousin decides to move the family's ancestral home, a beautiful North Carolina plantation, it prompts him to explore the meaning of the house and the secrets of his family's bloodline. Laced with a good dose of Southern Gothic, this documentary follows Cheshire (a film critic) as he meets the African-American limbs of his family tree and confronts the continuing burden of slavery.
