George Thorogood Artist Snapshot:

Rock & roll rarely gets nastier and dirtier than George Thorogood & The Destroyers. Steeped in the bar-band verities, these Delaware road dogs hit it big in the '80s with the ubiquitous "Bad to the Bone." Any number of their blues-drenched rockers could serve as the perfect soundtrack to a barroom brawl.

MOVE IT ON OVER, George Thorogood's sophomore album, is very much of a piece with his debut. It's a brash, rowdy take on the blues that owes as much to '60s garage bands and punk as it does to Muddy Waters. Thorogood's music isn't about deep feelings; it's about beer, getting down on a Saturday night, and the party to end all parties.

The Kid Flash of '70s blues once again demonstrates his excellent taste in covers. He bashes away energetically at such obscure gems as Chuck Berry's "It Wasn't Me," turns Hank Williams' "Move it on Over" into a guitar boogie, and summons the ghost of Elmore James with surprising skill on "The Sky is Crying." Thorogood changes pace briefly with "Cocaine Blues," Johnny Cash's cautionary country tale.
