Review

Vibe (p.112) - "The trio's confident take on DeBarge's timeless 'All This Love' proves the song deserves a place next to its more celebrated counterparts....Their lush signature harmonies remain intact..."

Title Note

Like 2004's THROWBACK, MOTOWN: A JOURNEY THROUGH HITSVILLE USA finds Boyz II Men working their way ably through a set of cover tunes. This time around the group takes on the Motown canon, lending their superb harmonies to renditions of "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)," and "The Tracks of My Tears."

Two covers albums in a row may come as a disappointment to fans waiting for a set of new material, but the group's signature sound is as swooningly spot-on as ever. And even while Motown purists may roll their eyes, there's something sweet about Boyz II Men's tribute to their soul-pop forebears, both in the range of material they choose ("Money (That's What I Want);" the Commodores' "Easy") and in their stunning singing.

The Boyz are back! They resorted back to using their voices as their best weapon. The album has the most colorful and warm beginning. "Just My Imagination" kicks it off with warm harmonies and downright great singing. Each song kept its same Motown style and truly gave Motown a tribute. The cover of "Money" and "War" are very good. Both songs have the good old 60s flavor. The best song on the album in my opinion would have to be their interpretation of Lionel Richies "Easy." Normally covers arent as good as the original, but Lionel Richie would be proud of them I think. Wanya Morris, the one that sings third because he has a home run hitter of a voice, knocked it out of the park and the group brought it home. This group is still talented, extremely. It was also great to hear Brian McKnight collaborate with them on the 2nd best "End of the Road" a capella version. That was a song for allstar singers. This album sounds great!!!! Buy it!!!!
