Sir Walter Scott (1771 - 1832) was a popular Scottish historical novelist and poet. Scott was the first English language author to have international popularity during his lifetime. His novels remain popular today. His most famous works include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of The Lake, Waverely, The Heart of Midlothian and The Bride of Lammermoor. The Monastery is set in the time of Mary Queen of Scots and Queen Elizabeth. The Monastery of Kennaghair is located in southeast Scotland. The monastery is in peril at the beginning of the Scottish Reformation. Included in the plot is a love triangle. The Glendinning boys fall in love with Mary Avenel. Edward ends up becoming a monk, and Halbert finally marries Mary.
