Title Note

On her 2007 album, MIRACLE OF FIVE, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Eleni Mandell offers up an elegant, atmospheric outing that beautifully evokes loneliness and longing. With her breathy voice placed prominently in the mix, Mandell eases into spare, waltz-like tunes such as "Girls" and "Wings in His Eyes," and imagines a noir-ish scenario with the slinky, foreboding "My Twin." With appropriately moody production by keyboardist Andy Kaulkin and backing by guitarist Nels Cline (Wilco) and percussionist DJ Bonebrake (of Mandell's hometown heroes X), among others, MIRACLE is one of those records that slowly unveils its charms, and stands out as one of the best under-the-radar releases of the year.
