Depending, to use an outmoded phonographic term, on where you drop the needle on MEST, you might come away with the wrong idea. Although the band's home base is clearly Green Day-descended punk-pop, with all the attitude-laden trappings that entails, there's more to their sonic story. For one thing, there's a fair amount of Goldfinger-like ska/reggae flavor cropping up throughout the album. Beyond that, though, there's a more varied, expansive approach to arrangements and production that seems far outside the pale of the Blink 182 nation, suggesting that even if kids grow tired of fourth- (fifth?) wave punk, these guys will still have room to manuever. There's even a Green Day/"Time of Your Life"-type Eleanor Rigby-with-tattoos move on the acoustic guitar-plus-strings tune "Chance of a Lifetime."
