Title Note

Since about 2004, guitarist, singer, and banjo player Seva Venet has been active in traditional New Orleans jazz circles, and MENS WORKING is his debut as leader. While the instrumentation does include clarinet and horns, WORKING leans slightly more to a string band-styled approach that superficially recalls the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt. But make no mistake; this set is truly blues-infused, old-school trad N'awlins jazz, funky in the way only New Orleans music can be. Venet is a sharp string-player, but never resorts to empty flash, and the program is a nice mix of classics and lesser-known gems.
