The full-length debut from Dallas-based indie rock outfit the New Frontiers blends a slightly rootsy, alt-country feel (chimey major chords, close harmonies) with an emo-tinged, bedsitter aesthetic (most notably in the songs that feature main songwriter Nathan Pettijohn). The combination works well on this 11-song set, thanks in large part to the band's full, absorbing sound, fine songcraft, and honest but never mawkish lyrics. The mood is low-key and introspective for the most part, but it's just this intimate feeling that will draw listeners into MENDING.
