Title Note

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones: Roman Flyscher, Dicky Barrett, Joe Gittleman, Joe Sirois, Ben Carr, Tim Burton, Lawrence Katz, Chris Rhodes.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have been kicking out energetic, third-wave ska since the mid-1980s, but given rumors that the band will call it quits by 2008, the outtakes collection MEDIUM RARE just might be their swan song. Drawing from recordings made mainly in the late `90s and early 2000s, MEDIUM RARE is a treasure trove of horn and guitar-driven jams. As those who've followed their trajectory know, the Bosstones grew more pop-oriented over time, so it stands to reason that most of the tracks here favor slinky ska rhythms and an accessible polish. Opener "This List" and "So Many Ways" recall the punkier flavor of the band's early material however. In short, there's a little something here for fans of all the Bosstones' material.

TOWER.COM REVIEW

Album Review

After a five year hiatus, the band reunited in December 2007. Dicky Barrett- Vocals, Joe Gittleman-Bass, Ben Carr-The Bosstone, Joe Sirois-Drums, Tim Burton-Saxophone, Roman Fleysher- Saxophone, Chris Rhodes-Trombone and Lawrence Katz-Guitar are back with that infectious brand of fun only the Bosstones can deliver. A 5 night stand in their hometown of Boston sold out in 15 minutes. A NYE show in Providence, RI also sold out instantly. To commemorate the dates, the band released “Medium Rare- 3 brand new songs along with 10 previously unreleased recordings spanning their career. The new song “Don’t Worry Desmond Dekker held the #1 position on WBCN in Boston for several weeks. An 8-page oral history of the band just ran in Alternative Press.
