Title Note

McCarthy Trenching: Renee Ledesma Hoover, Adrianne Verhoeven, Jerry Kinney, Ted Warin, Orenda Fink (vocals); Bill Hoover (guitar); Steve Bartolomei (electric guitar); Alex McManus (tiple); Mark Maziarz (harmonica); Tim Kasher (accordion); Ryan Fox (bass guitar); Pat Oakes (drums); Ted Stevens, Dan McCarthy (unknown instrument).

Conor Oberst continues his quest to be the new Lee Hazlewood as his Team Love label follows the country revivalism of Jenny Lewis's stellar RABBIT FUR COAT with the release of this Americana-inflected gem. McCarthy Trenching--the performing name of Omaha's Dan McCarthy--compiles beautifully understated tracks from his first two unreleased records for his Team Love debut. On MCCARTHY TRENCHING he sounds like a sunnier Townes Van Zandt, inheriting the rustic wit and tender melodic gifts of the Texas legend, but not the often harrowing melancholy. And that's not a bad thing, as under the self-torture Van Zandt was a melody maker of extraordinary ease. And so is Dan McCarthy on this stunningly self-assured debut.
