Review

Alternative Press (9/03, p.106) - 4 out of 5 - "...The four live songs recorded at the Henry Ford Theater in L.A. are painstakingly tight and studio-quality, showing that singer Bert McCracken's throaty growl and soaring singalongs aren't constructed with Pro Tools and pitch shifters..."

Title Note

MAYBE MEMORIES includes a bonus DVD which contains the live performance at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre on March 21, 2003, music videos for 4 songs, video biographies for each band member, and 2 "making of" the videos.

The Used: Bert McCracken (vocals); Quinn Allman (guitar); Jeph Howard (bass); Branden Steineckert (drums).

Partially recorded live at The Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre, Los Angeles, California on March 21, 2003.

Fans of emo (emotive hardcore) are notoriously loyal, so it's no surprise that Utah's the Used released MAYBE MEMORIES, a sophomore effort packed with live and previously unavailable material, along with a bonus DVD containing 100-plus minutes of documentary footage dating back to the band's earliest days. Scathing live versions of the very Jane's Addiction-like title cut, thunderous "A Box of Sharp Objects," and anthemic "Say Days Ago" open up this anthology along with a heartfelt "The Taste of Ink," buoyed by the crowd's harmonic accompaniment. Other odds-and-sods rounding out this collection include "Alone This Holiday," an emo holiday carol complete with sleigh bells originally recorded for the KROQ CHRISTMAS ALBUM. Newer fans of the Used are advised to go back to its self-titled 2002 debut, while die-hards will undoubtedly gobble up MAYBE MEMORIES until the band is able to release their next studio album.
