And here's yet another 2005-released Mastercuts compilation that deceptively substitutes inferior live versions and re-recordings for the originals. While Cloud One's "Atmosphere Strut," Curtis Mayfield's "Superfly," and Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street" are presented in the form that you expect, most of the remaining tracks -- including Heatwave's "Mind Blowing Decisions," Roy Ayers' "Poo Poo La La," Rose Royce's "Magic Touch," and (a real tip-off) "Jackson 5 & Johnny"'s "You've Changed" -- are not. Some of the live performances come with studio-altered crowd noise, and the re-recordings were often done cheaply, with chintzy electronic instrumentation. Nothing on the packaging indicates the presence of these poor alternate versions. You could call it a scam. ~ Andy Kellman
