The designer, avant-garde artist Mikhail Shemiakin, uses lush, strange costumes and sets to play up the delightfully surreal elements of Tchaikovsky's best-known work, creating a unique interpretation of the holiday stalwart.

This was a wonderful performance with a beautiful orchestra in a superb theatre. The medium to close-close-ups were very high-def and extremely high quality. The distant views of the stage were definitely shot LOW-def. Why? It somewhat spoils an otherwise faultless disc.
