Product Notes

By 1972, the seminal English glam-rock band T-Rex was at the height of what came to be known as "T-Rexstacy:" they had already scored three of their soon-to-be ten straight Top 10 hits; their landmark 1971 album ELECTRIC WARRIOR was still riding the charts; critics were declaring them to be "bigger than The Beatles;" and fans were aping singer-songwriter-guitarist Marc Bolan's iconic sartorial style. To celebrate their success, Bolan and T-Rex played two sold-out performances at London's Wembley Empire Pool, captured on film by none other than former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and released as the now-legendary concert film BORN TO BOOGIE. The only existant recording of a full T-Rex concert, BORN TO BOOGIE is centered around the dual live performances (with Ringo and Elton John guest starring on two tracks) and interspersed with an acoustic set filmed at John Lennon's mansion, goofy backstage footage of Bolan, and surreal sequences of nuns and dwarves inserted for visual effect.

While the original film ran for roughly one hour, this reissue of BORN TO BOOGIE restores many of the hours-worth of material shot by Ringo--including three recently discovered songs ("Cadillac," "Girl," and "Summertime Blues") and the never-before-seen matinee show--with a clean video transfer and audio remastered by legendary producer and Bolan friend Tony Visconti. In addition, Bolan's son Rolan presents a wealth of extra material that includes trailers, outtakes, deleted scenes, studio sessions, interviews, and more.

Born to Boogie is a gem. The concert footage is great, the band rocks, the songs rock (and still sound great today) and Marc Bolan is really entertaining to watch and listen to. The interviews that his son Rolan does are very interesting also. This is much better than I expected and Im sorry I didnt buy the 2 DVD set. I may still do that. If youre a T Rex fan, this is a must have. Great job Ringo!
