MANDALA was nominated for Best New Age Album in the 37th Annual Grammy Awards.

MANDALA is a moody space sonata that blends Eastern voicings with Western classical and rock influences. Kitaro uses everything from soft shakuhachi flutes to loud electric guitars to convey a wide range of feelings and adds dynamic percussion to keep things moving forward.

At the emotional center of the album is "Chant from the Heart," a stirring piece for voice, synthesizer, and drum that, like the whole collection, begins on a meditative note and builds up to a triumphant gallop. "Kokoro" ends the album in high prog-rock fashion, with wailing guitar solos and symphonic backing. This popular release is vintage Kitaro, and the source for his successful live album and video, AN ENCHANTED EVENING.
