On this country blues bonanza, Mississippi Fred McDowell is joined by harp man Johnny Woods for a 1967 session full of raw immediacy. McDowell's classic Delta fingerpicking/slide combination comes to the fore, matching Woods's big tone and insistent approach step for step, on a set that finds the pair digging into folk and blues chestnuts like "John Henry" and "Long Haired Doney" and investing them with new life. McDowell was in his 60s at the time, but he sings with all the verve and power of a man half that age.
