Started as a side project by Comets on Fire frontman Ethan Miller, Howlin Rain had developed into a legitimate full-time rock band by the release of their second album, 2008's MAGNIFICENT FIEND. Although both Howlin Rain and Comets on Fire both trade in fiery acid rock, the former contain a lovely organic, almost pastoral vibe that makes their recordings considerably more accessible than the screaming psych rock of the latter. This point was made all the more clear when Howlin Rain caught the attention of rock guru and American Recordings honcho Rick Ruben, who signed the band and released the CD version of MAGNIFICENT FIEND.
