Title Note

Sometimes it really is all about who you know. And for the one-time Los Angeles duo Qui, knowing former Jesus Lizard frontman David Yow was all it took to put the band on the map. Relatively m.i.a. since the demise of the Jesus Lizard in the late 1990s, Yow reentered the rock fray in 2006 after hooking up with Los Angeles art metalists Matt Crunk and Paul Christensen. The result is an album not too dissimilar musically from prime Jesus Lizard, though with perhaps a touch more prog-metal pyrotechnics. The most striking difference between Qui and the Jesus Lizard, however, is in Yow himself, who, although still deliciously demented, has added a few new voices to his arsenal, including one that could rightfully be called a croon. Whatever the case, it's nice to have that lunatic back on the streets.
