Unlike many bands from the same scene, the Sound of Animals Fighting recognize a history of popular music that goes a little deeper than grunge and the first Promise Ring album. The debut full-length by this band--a side project from members of various bands on the Equal Vision Records label--includes covers of songs by Nick Cave's howling early-1980s post-punk band, the Birthday Party, and New York proto-industrialists Swans, alongside experimental noise rock and emo-punk blasts like "My Horse Must Lose." Noisy, experimental, and occasionally fragmented, LOVER THE LORD HAS LEFT US is a neo-prog whirlwind.
