Synopsis

In 1953 Hungary, a young woman whose husband is in prison moves in with her mother-in-law. In order to protect her elderly and ill relative from the truth, the woman pretends that the prisoner is in the U.S., directing movies. But she can only maintain this elaborate lie by composing and reading letters, that supposedly come from her husband.
