Review

Alternative Press (p.122) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "It's certainly steeped in the post-punk tradition of classic U.K. bands, a tuneful blend of gloomy synthesizer riffs and pining vocals from the Ian Curtis school."
Mojo (Publisher) (p.109) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[I]t's the commanding neo-Walker Brothers aura of 'Nothing To Give' that points toward liberated greatness."

Title Note

Filled with anti-anthems like the title track, on which frontman Harry McVeigh encourages the song's muse and himself "to grow old together and die at the same time," the debut from this U.K. export is filled with contrastingly sunny keyboard choruses and deep, melancholic vocals. The most concise description of White Lies' well-polished, post-modern goth-pop would be its middle-ground between the Cars and Interpol, with Harry McVeigh's romantically cynical lyrics lending the distinction. And on "Fairwell To The Fairgrounds," where they manage to channel WAR-era U2, White Lies prove commendably worthy of their lofty influences.
