French hip hop DJ/producer DJ Cam's LOA PROJECT features Frank Black (ex-Pixies) on the track "Candyman". Fourteen cuts in all.

Japanese edition includes two bonus songs, "God Love Weed" and "Juliet (Love Version)".

This extraordinary French hip-hop sculptor (nee Laurent Daumail) brings us the first installment in what is hopefully a long line of Loa Projects (confusingly, there's no Volume 1). DJ Cam effortlessly fuses jazz, dub, minimalism, and hip-hop in his customary downbeat style.

"Juliet" starts off in classic DJ Cam fashion, running into a quasi-house/acid jazz track with a captivating vocal, almost creating a new electronic music genre in the process. The sinister-sounding "Candyman," sampled from the movie of the same name, sounds razor-sharp with its strings and flutes over haunting beats. "DJ Cam Sound System" has a refreshing improvisational feel--no loops, overdubbing, or overproducing. Cole Porter's "You Do Something to Me," featuring vocalist China, is sure to be a favorite on the lounge circuit, with its smoky, sultry feel, while "Angel Heart," complete with vinyl noise and languorous piano, is a perfect finale. Buy the vinyl, too!
