Title Note

The Roxy was one of London's first and most influential punk clubs. Many bands not only cut their teeth at the venue but recorded seminal live sets there as well. 1977's LIVE AT THE ROXY is one of the earliest of these punk documents. Apparently recorded at more than one performance, the 12-track set contains a ragged but admirably snotty version of "Bored Teenagers."

One of the most under-appreciated of all the original UK punk bands, the Adverts were also one of the most talented at turning their liabilities into assets. The self-description of the classic single "One-Chord Wonders" definitely fits. T.V. Smith's songs are like early Wire in their precision and economy. They also radiate a strange defiance similar to X-Ray Spex at its peak. Most live punk albums are close to worthless, but fans should check this one out.
