Review

Rolling Stone (1/9/92, p.51) - 3.5 Stars - Very Good "..every player contributes, and the mesh is often magnificent.."
Spin (1/92, p.79) - Highly Recommended "..he's eased gracefully into middle age without losing his knack for trashy rock'n'roll...consistently heartfelt.."

Keith Richards/X-Pensive Winos: Ivan Neville, Sarah Dash, Steve Jordan, Waddy Wachtel, Bobby Keys, Charley Drayton.

In the late 1980s and early '90s, before his fall from the coconut tree, but after the (arguable) decline of the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards released a spate of hot albums with and without his band the X-Pensive Winos. This '91 outing captures a particularly crisp show, and was released as an answer and antidote to the badly-recorded live X-Pensive Winos bootlegs that Richards was displeased to discover. Richards' guitar-playing is in fine form, and his endearingly laconic vocals don't disappoint, but the highlight of the album is a take of the old Stones chestnut "Time is on My Side," rendered passionately by vocalist Sarah Dash, a former Patti LaBelle backing singer.
