After blindsiding the industry with one of the more impressive hip-hop debuts, Company Flow here delivers a remarkable hip-hop instrumental album. After DJ Shadow's debut, "Endtroducing," many indie labels and producers tried to capitalize on the concept of a hip-hop album with original instrumentals, mostly without success.
While a few of the tracks suffer from monotonous loops, the lion's share of the songs thrive on musical maturity and subtle twists. "Suzy Pulled a Pistol on Henry" and "Wurker Ant Uprise" are prime examples of what it takes to be a top producer in hip-hop's uncharted underground. Company Flow's El-P and Mr. Len have produced a masterpiece that has left hip-hop's cognoscenti hungry for a new release.
