Album Description

Harold Jones (flute) and Colette Valentine (piano) perform repertoire spanning 3 centuries by six French composers (Faure, Chaminade, Debussy, Busser, Sancan and Satie), two Austrians (Mozart and Schubert), Chopin (Poland/France) and Afro-Americans (Hailstork, Perkinson and McDaniel, the latter two with Spirituals in classical arrangements). Harold Jones, a native of Chicago, entered Juilliard in 1955, where he received the "Outstanding Woodwind Player" award prior to graduation. He has been a soloist with Bach Aria Orchestra, American Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonia and many other groups; has collaborated with the Audubon and Fresk Quartets, pianist Leon Bates and guitarist Peter Segal; and has appeared frequently with Today''s Artists. Mr. Jones is on the faculty of the Westchester Conservatory of Music, Manhattan School of Music and Manhattanville College. * Pianist Colette Valentine has performed extensively throughout the US, Asia and Europe and is featured as guest artist at the Grand Teton Music Festival each summer. Some of the composers: Henri-Paul Busser (1872-1973) and Pierre Sancan (b.1916) both taught at the Paris Conservatory and won the Prix de Rome. * Adophus Hailstork''s (b.1941) works have been performed by The New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestra. * Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson (1932-2004) composed scores for feature films and jazz and popular artists including Harry Belefonte and Marvin Gaye. * William Foster McDaniel has written many classical works and has conducted Broadway and off-Broadway shows.
