Review

"The sardonic tone of the narrator's voice lends a refreshing air of realism to this riotously paced quest tale of heroism that questions the realities of our world, family, friendship and loyalty."

"[P]erfectly paced, with electrifying moments chasing each other like heartbeats, and mysteries opening out in sequence. The action never feels gratuitous; it draws its depth from the myth at its source."

Publisher's note

Classic Greek mythology meets modern-day adventure in the first of an action-packed new series.
A note from the author:
Dear Mortal Reader:
There is no such twelve-year-old boy as Perseus "Percy" Jackson. The Greek gods are nothing more than old myths. They certainly never have children with mortals in the 21st century, nor is there any such place as Half Blood Hill, a summer camp for demigods on eastern Long Island. Percy never met a satyr or a daughter of Athena. They most emphatically did not take a quest together across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.
Having said this, I must warn you to think carefully before starting this book. If you feel anything stirring within you as you read -- if you begin to suspect that this story may be describing something about your own life -- Stop Reading Immediately. I cannot be held responsible for the consequences. May the gods of Olympus (who of course do not exist) watch over you.
Senior Scribe, Half Blood Hill Honorary Member, Council of Cloven Elders Cupbearer, Court of Poseidon etc., etc.

Annotation

Greek mythology, ADHD, and perilous adventures are just a few of the ingredients in this fast-paced middle-grade novel about 12-year-old half-blood (part human, part god) Percy Jackson. A longtime sufferer of ADHD, Percy discovers that these are actually side effects from his Olympian heritage, and after being expelled from boarding school, he is sent to a demigod haven, Camp Half Blood. Soon, he's wrongly accused of stealing Zeus's sacred thunder bolt, and a cross-country hunt for the real perpetrator ensues, with Annabeth, the daughter of Athena, and Grover, a satyr, in tow. A New York Times Notable Book of 2005.
