Review

Rolling Stone (4/13/00, p.131) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "...a glossy collection of thug-themed hip-hop pop....headed up by 'Whoa!', a pounding get-crunk sure-shot that marries Rob's weighty delivery to Juvenile's trademark 'Ha' rhyme scheme....LIFE STORY is, well, like whoa!"
CMJ (3/27/00, p.30) - "The last man standing in the Bad Boy camp completely transcends the stigma of being Puff Daddy's 'next big thing' on this long-awaited debut..."
Vibe (6,7/99, p.185) - "...[Black Rob] is incredibly adept at constructing graphic, autobiographical episodes and intricate tales....Replete with fluid production from the Hitmen, LIFE STORY is an emotional ride full of hardship and pain....[He] is the closest thing to the late, great Notorious B.I.G."
The Source (10/99, pp.219-20) - 4.5 mics out of 5 - "...LIFE STORY is, in a word, dope. And not dope in the way that it feels good to get some quality sh*t out of Bad Boy, but in the way that it's sure to have ni#*as arguing about their favorite cut. Black Rob is a star..."
Rap Pages (7/99, pp.149-150) - "...Without a doubt, Black Rob is a certified baaad boy....Bad Boys usual suspects also make the lineup, with Mase, Puff and The Lox contributing rhymes while the Hitmen...handle the production..."

Title Note

Personnel includes: Black Rob, Mase, Jennifer Lopez, Cee-Lo, Mark Curry, Puff Daddy, The Lox, Mario Winans, Joe Hooker, G-Dep, Carl Thomas, Cheryl Pepsi Riley, Racquel, Lil Kim.

Engineers include: Ed Raso, Michael Patterson, Stephen Dent.

In early 2000, with the Notorious B.I.G. gone, Mase retired, and the Lox released, Black Rob became the last man standing at Bad Boy Entertainment. But with his debut, LIFE STORY, the East Harlem native more than proved that he could stand on his own two feet.

LIFE STORY is a complete hip-hop package of skillful rhymes and tight production. Rob's true-to-life lyricism and vivid storytelling help earned him the right to be ranked among only the best rap artists. The album is an intentionally untrendy collection of straight-up hip-hop. Rob contributes a street anthem with the blazing "Whoa," in which he ends each verse with the exclamation, "Whoa!" The brilliant title track is a hip-hop classic, proving that Black Rob has many more great things in store.
