Recorded at Sage & Sand Sound Studios, Hollywood, California and Studio Davout Recording, Paris, France. Includes liner notes by Herbie Hancock.

Chet Baker never stopped making good albums or playing good music despite the ravages of a life-long drug addiction and an itinerant lifestyle. This official soundtrack to Bruce Weber's lushly photographed documentary about Baker is one of the best recordings from his later years. The once sweet affectless voice might be reduced to a corpse-like whisper and the trumpet playing minimal, but Baker still delivers the melodic goods, opening strongly with Alec Wilder's passionate "Moon & Sand," done in a contemporary post-bossa nova style. Apart from Jobim's instrumental "Zingaro," all the tracks feature Chet's raw vocal stylings, which gives the set a distinctly cabaret feel. Besides the smart choice of material ( Billy Strayhorn's "Daydream"; the nearly autobiographical "Everything Happens To Me"; a dreamlike "Everytime We Say Goodbye") it also helps that Baker is playing with a sharp contemporary band here (sans drums), and backed by the sympathetic piano accompaniment of Frank Rozier.
